    CLINTON WALKER

Most general histories of post-war Australian popular music tell the story of a sound, whether pub rock, the inner-city sound of indy rock, or whatever. This book uniquely tells the story of the songs and the songwriting, filling an egregious gap in the bibliography.

Drawing on the author’s forty years’ experience writing about Australian music and on many previously-unpublished interviews from his archive, it takes a roughly narrative shape, working along with the chronology as the tradition develops through time, and it concludes with the great coming of age of the early 70s just before the birth of Countdown (and not extending beyond that time because the post-Countdown era has been so well documented).

Pre-orders will open late Jan or early Feb

    BROD SMITH

This autobiography is more a book about Brod Smith a traveller through eras rather than just a musician’s tale. It exposes the immigrant experience: about coming from England in the 1950’s as a Ten Pound POM and growing up in the western suburbs of Melbourne.

It’s a look at the National Service experience by someone who liked the army but hated the war (Vietnam). There are stories from a musician’s life, both the early band experiences in Melbourne (Adderley Smith Blues Band and Carson) and on the road in the USA (Dingoes), about touring there and living there.

There are belly laughs and giggles and some OMG’s because it’s a real story that tries not to embellish the truth.

Pre-orders opening late Jan or early Feb

  • THE HISTORY OF GREASY POP RECORDS

    COMING SOON!

    DOUG THOMAS

Greasy Pop Records (GPR) was an independent record label founded in Adelaide by Doug Thomas in 1980 to release The Dagoes debut record, The Dagoes Sell Soul. At the time, Thomas also owned local music store Umbrella Music and was a guitarist with the Dagoes.

This lavish book has full colour images of every GPR release from the Doug Thomas Years (1980–1991). It pays homage to this very influential record label that risked everything to record the emerging new sounds from the streets of Adelaide, bands like the Exploding White Mice, The Mad Turks from Istanbul, The Spikes, Primitive Painters, Dust Collection, Garden Path and Primevils.

    Pre-orders opening late Feb
